Nutkins (0-20 months)

All our staff qualified and are familiar with current initiatives and recommendations relevant to working with under 2’s. Along with the rest of the experienced Nutkins team they ensure that all babies attending Little Oaks receive the highest standard of care possible.

Nutkins operates as one unit, however, it is structured so that the younger and non-mobile babies can engage safely in floor play without restricting the boundless energy of the older more active toddlers. The nursery has under-floor heating. Good hygiene is paramount in the baby unit and parents and visitors are encouraged to remove their outdoor shoes, or wear the provided shoe protectors, to help keep the carpets ‘germ-free’.

There is a sleep area within the unit and separate areas for nappy changing and preparing feeds. As our meals are prepared on site, all stages of the weaning process can be accommodated using fresh vegetables and fruit and the children sit together in a family group for meal times. Every effort is made to continue with routines established at home when babies first join us, but as they grow and develop meal times and ‘playtimes’ are sociable group activities.

Woodlands (16-26 months)

There are plenty of exciting activities on offer in woodlands to satisfy even the most active and curious mind. In the ’messy area’ children have the opportunity to play in sand or water as well as paint, stick and play with dough. The walls around the rooms are filled with bright displays of children’s art work which reflect topical seasons and festivals.

Outside play is a very important part of our day as it gives the children the opportunity practice physical skills as well as burn off some energy and socialise with siblings and friends. Weather permitting we go outside at least twice during the day and in the Summer months as often as we can.

After a home cooked lunch, those toddlers still needing an afternoon nap are offered sleep mats and a quiet area in which to re-charge their batteries!

Treetops (30-50 months)

Our Foundation Stage is divided into two rooms, Acorns and Treetops

Our Aim

•To provide day care in a happy, secure and stimulating environment.

•To enhance the development and education of children under school age

•To provide equal opportunities for all children and their families

Little Oaks is registered with the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership to provide funded education sessions for 3 and 4 year olds and follows the National Curriculum.

We are proud of our high ratio of adults to children, this ensures individual attention to the needs and development of your child.

Acorns and Tree Tops work alongside each other to deliver the Foundation Stage Curriculum. However, the smaller environment of Acorns helps to provide an opportunity to build up confidence, and as both of our rooms independence and to develop very important skills in readiness for school.

Various time s throughout the day we join together – lunchtimes, outdoor play, learning French and sometimes at the very beginning and the very end of the day.

Both Acorns and Tree Tops provide many exciting activities:

Kids Club

We offer an out of school care facility for children at our modular building on the Larkfields School site in the form of breakfast and after school club during term time, and full day care during the school holidays and Inset days.   We also provide breakfast club at Gilthill Primary School.  Children attending any school can access our holiday club.

The children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities at the club, including art and crafts, board games, construction toys, outdoor physical play, games consoles or they can just chill out with friends after a day at school.
